Another light and satisfying story. I'm enjoying the lightness and characters in this series. Something I don't like, however, is how FMC always requires true love to commit sometimes actions are enough? Another fun, spicy entry in the Wallflowers series! The MCs were interesting, and I really liked the progression of their relationship. The exploration of love language was also refreshing in a historical romance. Worth reading! Maria Dariotis. This was a fantastic read! Plenty of twists and turns the hero and heroine had plenty of chemistry with a slow burn romance. The author did a fantastic job of pulling the reader into the lives of the characters I actually felt like a bystander in their lives! Great story I highly recommend! Emily Pennington. Charity and Ethan's Story. He only wanted the dowry he could collect. So Charity would steal the romantic letters so he could not use them against her. After an exciting adventure over procuring the letters, Ethan and Charity developed a friendship. He knew she was too wild and daring to be his countess; yet he definitely wanted her. But has Charity decided she wants the single life forever?Does he want to propose to her as their friendship brings them closer and closer? What if she refuses, more to be stubborn than to realize she is falling in love? I enjoyed this story with the likable and amusing characters whose banter was excellent. These two, although very different, were perfect for each other. Grab your copy and see if their story turns into a HEA. I think this was is the best addition to this series so far with the first book being a close second! Overall this was well written. I really enjoyed the story and main characters, The actual writing of the author has gotten significantly better with each book! This addition follows Chastity, one of the founding members of the Lady's Club. She takes on a dare to steal back a packet of romantic letters for one of the members, and Chastity's friend, Jenna. I can't remember , and he planned to use the letters to blackmail her into marrying him. Chastity sneaks into his home to steal the letters but crosses paths with another person trying to retrieve the same letters, Jenna's brother the Earl of Ralston. The connection between the two sparks during this meeting and the rest of the book follows their budding relationship with all the challenges and drama it entails. As I said above, I really really liked this. Chastity and Ethan were both very likable characters. The progression of their relationship was perfectly paced and believable, as well as finding the perfect mix of steam and true connection.

I read this all in one sitting and I'm excited for the next book in the series. One of my main complaints for the last couple of books in the series was how the drama at the climax of the story seemed to follow this formula - The smart, witty wallflower who believes in love begins to fall for the uptight and pragmatic, but secretly liberal, titled gentleman. The gentleman cannot say "I love you" so the spunky gal runs away - It became too repetitive and felt like super easy drama, rather than having any sort of external storyline or something else push the story along. This addition did have a little bit of this, but I didn't end up disliking or thinking Chastity was selfish. I will count this as a win. Something that I did notice was the dialogue did lean a bit modern, which can sometimes annoy me with historical romances. Also, Chastity was addressed as "Lady Chastity", which I'm fairly certain isn't how she actually should be addressed. I'm pretty sure first names were almost never used by acquaintances, so she should have gone by something else like Lady Rutherford. Charity and Ethan Ralston. Homie, being the gentleman he is, tells her that he has the love letters that she sent him and that if they were released she would be ruined. Jenna put a dare on the women's social club for lbs to the lady who dares steal them back for her. Charity takes up the dare not for money but to protect one of her "sisters". The night she sneaks into scumbag's house, she picks a couple of locks and finds the letters. She also finds that she was not alone in the house. Jenna's brother Ethan was also in the house to steal back the letters. They have some banter back and forth and while he tries to take the letters from Charity she stuffed them in her shirt and he was unbuttoning her shirt to retrieve them our cheating loser comes home with his lightskirt for the evening. Not to get caught Ethan and Charity hide behind some curtains in his library or study or drawing room, who cares. As to be expected loverboy decides to tup his lady in the room so Charity and Ethan were privy to the sounds. Charity and Ethan are pressed up against each other behind the curtains and she keeps trying to see what is happening the sounds weren't enough. Ethan is crazy aroused and Charity keeps squirming around him. They don't get caught and are able to escape the house Charity keeps the letters to return back to Jenna the next morning. Prior to going to visit Jenna and return the letters, at breakfast, her brother and SIL call her out for returning home late dressed inappropriately she was wear pants and a shirt to be a thief because a ball gown would've been a problem. Her brother tells her that he plans to match her with some Lord thinking that marriage and kids would settle her down. She has no desire for that. At Jenna's, she returns the letters and finds that Jenna had twisted her ankle and had a pretty bad sprain. Her doctor suggested and they were going to retire to the Ralston country estate for a couple of weeks for her to heal. She asks Charity to come with to keep her company and she agrees feeling like getting away for a couple of weeks will calm her brother's plan to marry her off. Ethan takes Charity aside and tells her to refuse to go with Jenna. He kisses her passionately and admits that he desires her and while he can control himself, his desire is high and he may not prevent her from ending up in his bed he tried to scare her into not going and it didn't work.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers. Show full review. This was a great addition to Alyssa Clarke's series, not just because of the great HEA but because the characters made a shower of sparks fly off the page. With just the right amount of steamy scenes to fill out the storyline, the plot flew from scene to scene with humor, angst and adventure. Definitely, the perfect combination. A dare that could ruin them both… Lady Charity Rutherford accepted a dare to steal back romantic letters that had the power to compromise a friend. Until she asks for something he cannot give, and he realizes he must reveal his heart to Charity. Charity is a heroine as I love them, confident without being haughty, comfortable in her own-skin and determined to never fall for less than she deserves. And while she is far from perfect, she enjoys after all pursuits forbidden to women, she might be demanding what she is allowed but too immediately, without engaging herself too. Ethan does not see the need of love in his life, a well respected spouse from good stock with a good upbringing is what he believes he needs. But is it enough to lead to a well matched marriage… Together they have fun even if they butt heads on their different view of a success union, when the facts all point to deeper feelings than both want to really acknowledge. A sensual tale of two persons who stand by their opinion, yet are too blind and stubborn to realize they have already accomplished the journey toward love. Jamie Bee. Author 2 books 91 followers. So, an author has to work pretty hard to surprise me. But this one did, and I say that with delight. The first scene, which is quite long but well written , was refreshing and brilliant. His thoughts were so amusing but completely made sense within the context of what was happening during the scene. By the way, I liked that the author portrayed the heroine as a true innocent during this first scene. Far too often lately, Regency authors are imbuing their heroines with more modern sensibilities and knowledge, especially about intimacy. So it was wonderful to see a young woman confused by the sounds of intimacy happening beyond the curtain where she was hiding.

Don't You Dare

She wanted to be certain the sounds coming from the woman did not betray she was being harmed! The heroine is fantastic in other ways as well, a somewhat brash but courageous young woman, especially for those times. You can't help but like her as she risks her reputation to help a friend who has been made miserable by a scoundrel. The book was simply a delight from start to finish, and I highly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. Lana Birky. Lady Charity Rutherford knows right from wrong, but she doesn't really care too much for rules or making pretty at society functions. So, when her friend Jenna confides in her that she has done something that may affect her life - well, Charity know she must help! The steam, passion, and tension of this book was off the charts! The storyline was so very good! I was hooked from the start. I had read the previous book of this series so I was familiar with the ladies of 48 Berkeley Square and I enjoyed the last book so very much. This book outshined that one. The icy earl Ethan isn't a person with whom Charity would ever think to form a friendship with but when they are both after the same thing, she can't help but speak her mind and in the end, gets more than she bargained for. The hiding behind the curtain scene is fantastic! Critiques- the whole storyline of the rakish viscount Jenna had written to seem to be put to rest rather quickly after the letters were returned, surely he would have noticed. The ending was abrupt, it just ended, no epilogue, nothing. I would have like to have had it wrapped up nicely. It left several things hanging Alice, Jenna, Thomas The entire last few chapters felt really rushed compared to the nice flow of most of the book. Overall however this was a great story, I highly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This fourth installment of the Wagers and Wallflowers series was pretty good! Charity was a character introduce in previous novels. This one finds Charity helping out a fellow Wallflower sister Jenna in stealing back some scandalous poems she wrote to someone she fancied herself in love with. During the heist, Charity finds herself in the same place as Jenna's brother Ralston who is also trying to take back the letters to protect his sister from ruin. Hijinks ensue and the two find themselves becoming closer than ever. It takes a week in the country for those feelings to come to fruition. While I enjoyed this book, it wasn't my favorite of the series. I felt there could have been more development between Charity and Ralston. It started out well, but then kind fell apart for me. Still worth my time reading, I just think the author got lazy toward the end.
